Halloween Hunters

NEW!   Voted 2007 Best New Haunt by Halloween Hunters own Captain Creepy.

Captain Creepy here  -  The Haunt House is located right off of Interstate Highway 30 in Caddo Mills.  Easy to find, plenty of free parking and a friendly staff start the night off right for our group.  The creepy, realistic facade and the fact you are outside the city limits at the edge of nowhere provide a great halloween backdrop.  The haunt begins in a very old school way and takes on a life of it's own as you descend further into it's halls.  The detail of the sets and the passionate actors are why this place is top notch in my opinion.  Yes, you will find some traditional HH rooms, but they all have a little bit of a twist that will keep you on your toes throughout your journey.  The backstory of the haunt is genius, providing a storyline that will allow new rooms and ideas to develop through time without having to change up what is already existing.  The owners of this haunt have really done their homework and know what it takes to put on a quality show. Look out dfw metroplex haunt owners,  fear has a new name, it's called The Haunt House.

Mortimer the Mangler Review:

I agree with Captain Creepy.  The Haunt House has definately left its mark and is by far the best new haunt for 2007.  The atmosphere really gives off the feel of an old dark ride.  The house holds true to its theme very well and does offer its own twist on some traditional scares. Without giving to much away, my favorites were the dark room and killer clowns from outer space.  The actors here are top notch and stop at nothing.  I think Captain Creepy said it best, Fear has a new name!  I can't wait to see what The Haunt House has in store next season.

The Haunt House exit is right beside the entrance, and this provides a good amount of entertainment.  Watching everyone running out screaming is probably our favorite part of the haunt season.  But they also have live bands performing on the side stage, so no matter what you have something to watch and listen to as you wait in line.

For a first year haunt, we were very impressed with the amount of detail that went into the design, inside and out.  Small accents such as glowing red light behind spots on the wall designed to look like an older building that is wearing down, and the bare slats are exposed sparsely down the hall.  Then we trek through a shrinking hallway, textured hallways, and very effective scream windows through the hallways.  This type of consideration for just hallways should give you an idea of how much they have put into every room.  Decorating halls between scenes definitely helps people stay in the moment of their experience.  The Haunt House house a large plot of land to keep growing, too.  Look out, DFW… The Haunt House is putting a big mark on the haunt map, and if they keep this up and keep getting bigger, there will be some big time competition in the years to come!  We love to see the new comers raise the bar!

Everyone [of the actors] hit their timing perfectly, and we were lucky to have two people ahead of us to watch getting scared.   There was also some great interaction with actors pointing us the wrong ways and forcing us into a place to be scared by another actor waiting for us.

From what we could see, groups were relatively small (4-6 people), and each group sent in was fairly spaced out to avoid groups running into one another.  This particular night had a good sized line of patrons, so we imagine that this trend will remain consistent through the season.  Due to the timing of the actors being a great bonus for scare factor, it would be crucial for the Haunt House to keep the groups spaced out enough to allow actors to reset and no groups run into each other.

We absolutely loved visiting The Haunt House, and it was surprising that this was their first year.  Built from the ground up in three months, everything looks as though it has been around for ages.  We know for a fact that we were not the only ones highly impressed by this haunt, too… watching each group running out (sometimes falling down in the process) either laughing, screaming, or panting – and EVERY SINGLE person completely satisfied with the experience and commenting on how much fun it was – THIS tells us that this is a great haunt to see.  It is rare that you can see such consistent reactions from everyone who exits the haunt…  We look forward to seeing The Haunt House again next year, and watching them grow into the pro market and stir up the competition.

It's rare to find a completely new haunt like the Haunt House.  I say rare because Haunt House is truly brand new, built from the ground up, while most new haunted houses are remodeled from existing stores, warehouses, trailers, etc.  The owner/manager worked at Verdun (Thrillvania) for 14 years and Haunt House reflects what he learned on the job.  The use of lighting is excellent, with a generally dark eerie glow throughout the house. The actors are well placed to surprise you in every room (each room being interactive is a point of this haunt) and the place is well decorated with creative props.  At $16 (or $15 with a dollar off coupon available for printing on our homepage or their site) you're getting a good deal due to the number of actors (20+) as well as the design of the house and the fright level.

Actors are the emphasis in Haunt House, but the props are first rate as well.  My favorites are in the Dining Room, and the clown funhouse room, which will remind some people of Killer Clowns From Outer Space.  A spotted room is well done with a couple of twists on the successful style and there are two dark mazes with sheets and tubes, plus an operating room and a butcher's area.  Clowns and the Texas Chainsaw massacre are the two main themes in the haunt, with very persistent actors complementing the well done areas.  Haunt House is dark, especially in the mazes, which adds quite a bit to the fright level.

Haunt House is located off of the I-30 eastbound access road in Caddo Mills, not too far from Garland and Rockwall.  Look for the strobe light on top of the haunt.  While the haunt itself is well lit, the surrounding area is dark and adds to the atmosphere.  The place has a good, creepy old fashioned country haunt feel to it.  If you want to see a brand new place with lots of good actors who will scare you, take a trip to Haunt House.
